Kudos to Glee

Glee
accomplished a few things this week that surprised me...

Firstly, as much as she has been awarded with various honors in her close to 20 years in movies and on tv I have never once enjoyed a Gwyneth Paltrow performance. Even in movies I did enjoy like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Gwyneth always got on my nerves. Kudos to Glee for not only giving her a role I liked, but a performance I loved.

Those of us who love Harry Shum Jr didn't need his incredible turn in Make Em Laugh to know he should have been made a series regular long ago. Thankfully the show finally saw he is too good to lose and Harry will be a series regular next season!

Last Nights GLEE

Last nights Duets episode of GLEE was the best episode in a long time. Although a couple of the cast was MIA (Puck & Sue) the rest of the cast all got a chance to shine. This is the GLEE most of us fell in love with. Great character development, great music (from Broadway to Motown to Pop) the entire cast was able to shine. My favorite duets were Santana and Mercedes and Tina and Mike. (Harry Shum Jr!!!).

Having Chord Overstreet shirtless was icing on the cake! Thanks to Superherofan for these great caps!

Kudos to GLEE!

Love this shot of Chris Colfer from the TV Edition of Rolling Stone.

Well GLEE returned with a bang last night and dispte a few worries I loved every minute of it. From a shirtless Mike Chang to Coach Bieste to the musical numbers it was a great hour of television. Even Clarice (who I sadly never heard of) was not as annoying as I expected. (although I was happy to see her leave in the capable hands of Cheyenne Jackson at the end of the episode).

Harry Shum JR by Tyler Shields:

I have posted before about my love of the work of artist and photographer Tyler Shields. Shields spent some time recently with one of my favorite Glee guys and the results are truly something to behold! Check out Tyler's site HERE:

Glee Returns This Tuesday!

Here is (embarrassed to say I have been playing over and over) 'Empire State of Mind' first single released from season 2.

Glee: Season 2

The Emmy Awards which air this Sunday are the official start of the new tv season. Not sure about the rest of you but this summer flew by quicker than any I remember. I do love the fall, but as I am still on vacation am not quite ready for summer to end just yet.

Besides the cool weather I am looking forward to new episodes of some of my favorite shows, especially Glee. Here are the cast putting together the official cast shots for season 2.

Season 2 of Glee premiers September 21, 2010 on Fox.

Heather Morris and Mike O'Malley become series regulars.

Lookin Good Artie!

Glee's Kevin Mchale, relaxing in Monaco with Glee co-star Jenna Ushkowitz is looking mighty fine! The two are in Monaco to promote the tv series but thankfully had some down time to hit the beach.

Kudos to Jonathan Groff and Glee

"Kiss my ass, Josh Groban."
Sue

Kudos to all those responsible for the season finale of Glee! Yes the Shelby adoption of Beth was predictable and yes to me the last song was one song to many but...why quibble when you just watched such an enjoyable hour of television. Kudos!

I have to single out Jonathan Groff and those responsible for the "Bohemian Rhapsody" production. Rhapsody is one of rocks most dramatic anthems and this to me was up there with some of the best stagings of the song. Groff was amazing and it is easy to see why so many were injured during the filming of the song. During this song so much happened from Quinn's baby being born to closure for Jesse and Rachel not to mention ensuring the audience understood why New Directions did not win.

I truly hope Ryan Murphy brings back Groff next season. Groff is already scheduled to be in London on stage in Deathtrap through the late summer and fall, but he is far too talented to let go.

Below: 2 shots from Details.

Some of my favorite Groff shots:

Looking Forward to:

Glee tonight!
Hope the cast end their tour and get some well needed R & R.

Just Because: Glee Blood

With Season 2 of 'True Blood' out I went back and rewatched a couple from season 1 as it had been awhile since I had seen it. I thought I remembered Kevin McHale from 'Glee' in a few episodes but was surprised to see Coach Tanaka, Patrick Gallagher also bringing out the Fangs.

Below: Patrick with Kristin Bauer and Alexander Skarsgard.

Glee Goes Gaga

Seriously could there have been a gayer hour of television than this past Tuesdays Glee? Lady Gaga, the queen from Wicked Idina Menzel singing Streisand’s Funny Girl, Finn, Puck and the boys in black spandex...Yet there was something also oddly anti-gay woven into the storyline. Many may disagree with my feelings about the episode, but for a show I worry about the direction of a show I so love.

Those who read message boards about Glee will see that there is quite a diverse reaction to the Finn and Kurt storyline. What does it say that many gay guys are siding with the straight guy who torn into the ‘faggy’ gay guy. I say you must thank Ryan Murphy.

Ryan Murphy has written and created some of tv’s finest hours. This past season of Glee being the best, but he also was responsible for the fabulous first season of Popular and the first few seasons of Nip/Tuck. But...if we credit Murphy for the exception first season of Popular, he must also take credit for the horrible second and last season of the show. (Not to mention the decline of Nip/Tuck). Murphy seems to have the ability to write and create great characters. What he seems to struggle with is writing them consistently.

Throughout the first season of Glee several characters have been all over the place, Quinn and Kurt being the most frustrating. Some weeks Kurt is kind and funny and very likable. Other weeks he is nasty and selfish and very much annoying. I guess there is a real element as humans are not robots, but for a tv character it is frustrating. Finn on the other hand has consistently been written kind, easy going, caring and tolerant. To then have the two characters come to blows with Finn being written as the cruel one, the one in need of a lesson was a bit hard for many to swallow. Finn, as written prior to this weeks episode could have taught a class on tolerance, not needed to attend the one Murphy insisted the character go to.

The scene in question was a powerful one I know. It was again gutwrenching to witness Kurt’s father show so much love for his son. The acting was superb, and Mike O’Malley always delivers. When the father/son was first explored earlier this season when Kurt joined the football team the result as an amazing hour of tv. The writers however have rewritten the same storyline in several different ways since. Powerful scenes like this need to be carefully woven in and not shoved in weak after weak. In doing so they are losing their impact. I don't fault the cast, Chris Colfer is doing a wonderful job, but the character is becoming increasingly unlikable.

I would like to think Murphy wrote this episode with the controversy in mind. I am not sure it was that well thought out however. Are we supposed to feel sorry and care for Kurt simply because he is gay? Are we supposed to hate the bully’s simply because they are bulling the gay character? Kurt is gay yes, but has also bullied throughout the season. He is particularly cruel to Rachel. He is a snob who cuts down others often. Maybe it was Kurt who should have been taught a lesson...

Still love me some Heather Morris! Missed Jonathan Groff though!
Idina Menzel's Funny Girl was beautiful and loved the line 'Brad's just always around ... somewhere.'

Just Because: American Idol

AI is almost over for the season, and what a yawn fest of a season it has been. I think it is the energy. There is some talent, but they are all about as boring as reading assembly instructions for an Ikea bookshelf. I am hoping for a Lee win, only because I have not enjoying having Crystal shoved down our throats all season. She is good, but she is not great and in any other year she would have gotten the boot weeks ago. Casey should have left before big Mike. Casey has really been less than average the past couple of weeks.

Speaking of AI, I was doing a search of FH and came across these pics of 2008 contestant Luke Menard. I am sure others have noticed it before me, but if Glee is looking to cast a younger brother for Matthew Morrison, Luke is your man!

Although he is one of the most successful guys to come out of AI's auditions, Alan Ritchson's success has come as an actor and model, not as a singer. But...I did enjoy Billboards list of the top 24 money makers who have come off of Idol. There were a few surprises (like the fact Ruben Studdard made the list...) but most are fairly predictable. Interesting read though. Check it out HERE:
